Trail guide
Tabletop Track’s Florence Falls–Wangi Falls leg is a 20 km one-way point-to-point through savanna woodland, forest, creeks and rocky plateau. NT Parks allows two days for this Grade 4 route. The distance includes 16.5 km between the falls junctions and access tracks of 1.2 km at Florence and 2.2 km at Wangi. This is one section of the 39–46 km Tabletop circuit. Start at Florence Falls and finish at Wangi Falls, so arrange a pickup or vehicle transfer. It suits walkers ready for an overnight trip; the remote setting and limited support make it a serious undertaking.
The Florence side climbs steeply in places. The first 4 km include several creek crossings; for the following 6 km, there is no reliable water across the plateau. Flat stretches ease your legs, but the track also crosses rough, rocky ground through woodland and forest. Carry all food and water; there is no dependable resupply en route. Southern Campground lies along this Tabletop section, so book a campsite and plan your water stops before leaving.
Between the two waterfall areas, the route crosses Litchfield’s high country through savanna woodland, forest and rugged rock, with scenic pools along the broader Tabletop route. There are few facilities on the walk, and the remote middle makes it a poor choice if you need an easy exit. At the finish, Wangi Falls café serves hot and cold food. It is at the visitor area, not halfway along the trail, so bring your meals for the crossing.
Use Florence Falls carpark for the start, then meet your second vehicle or pickup at Wangi Falls. Book and pay for the extended walk and campsite before you leave. Most visitors need an NT Parks pass; Northern Territory residents are exempt. Access is usually open from June through September and can change seasonally, so check status before travelling. Dogs aren’t permitted in the park.
