Farview Curve Overlook

Farview Curve is a roadside overlook on Trail Ridge Road, above Kawuneeche Valley on the park’s west side. You look across the valley toward the Never Summer Range. It takes only a few minutes; I’d stop for the wide view if you want a payoff without adding a hike.

This is a seasonal drive-up stop. The stretch between Many Parks Curve and Colorado River Trailhead, where Farview sits, normally closes from mid-October to Memorial Day; snow can shift that schedule. Check the road status before you go. The overlook is right at the pullout, so there’s no trail to plan.

The Never Summer Range is the park’s only volcanic mountain range. Look for the Grand Ditch, a long horizontal line across the slopes; it carries water to Long Draw Reservoir and supplies farms and communities east of the Front Range. For a photo, leave some valley below the ridge so that thin line doesn’t float against a wall of peaks.

Native American communities used Kawuneeche Valley seasonally for thousands of years, drawing on the Colorado River through summer. Settlers began farming homesteads here in the late 1800s, and prospectors mined the valley below Farview for precious metals. Those mines never made fortunes.
