Potwisha Campground

Potwisha is a developed campground with 42 sites beneath open oaks beside the Middle Fork of the Kaweah, 2,100 feet up and 3.7 miles inside the Ash Mountain entrance. It works well as a low-elevation base near Three Rivers; the giant sequoia groves and high-country stops are a long drive farther up Generals Highway. Every site is reservation-only.

Every site has a tent pad, parking pad, picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear-resistant food locker. Potable water, year-round flush toilets, and an RV dump station are available, but there are no showers, hookups, or camp store. Sites 39 and 40 have accessible tent pads and paved paths to the restroom; slopes make some facilities harder to reach from other parts of the campground. Vehicles longer than 24 feet aren't recommended, and some pads are uneven or sloped, which can make leveling a larger RV awkward.

At 2,100 feet, Potwisha is much warmer than the sequoia groves in summer: expect hot, dry days. Winters are usually snow-free, though cool and rainy. Oak shade varies by site, and campers often appreciate the quiet nights and starry skies. Fire restrictions commonly tighten during hot, dry weather, so check the current rules before planning a campfire.
