Bacon Hollow Overlook is a roadside pullout on Skyline Drive at mile 69, with a south-facing view across the broad hollow toward Virginia’s Piedmont. The appeal is the open countryside view; it makes a good pause in a longer drive rather than a place that needs a long visit. A park entrance fee applies when driving Skyline Drive.
From 2,455 feet, the view runs south over forested slopes toward the Piedmont, Virginia’s rolling central region between the Blue Ridge and Coastal Plain. The overlook’s stonework barrier makes a useful foreground: keep a little of it in the bottom of a photo to give the layered ridges depth. Clouds and rain can hide the distant view.
Greene County and Hugh and Temple Joyce helped fund maintenance through Shenandoah National Park Trust’s Adopt an Overlook program. It is a small piece of stewardship that keeps this outlook part of the Skyline Drive experience.
