Guide
Eaton Hollow Overlook is a roadside pull-off on Skyline Drive at mile 70.6, looking north-northeast over Shenandoah Valley toward Elkton. It’s a quick stop, not a reason to carve out a separate drive. Trees block much of the view for much of the year, leaving a small window through the foliage; I’d stop if you’re already passing and skip it if you’re chasing a wide-open panorama.
The overlook sits around 2,500 feet. Look north-northeast through the remaining opening for the valley and distant ridges. The tree cover is part of the view, so don’t expect a clear sweep. For a photo, compose through the opening and keep some of the layered ridges in frame rather than trying to hide the foliage.
Elkton is the town this overlook faces. Its Miller-Kite House was built by Henry Miller Jr. in 1827 and briefly served as Stonewall Jackson’s headquarters in 1862. That’s a worthwhile piece of Valley history, though the house itself isn’t an identified feature to look for from the overlook.
