Loft Mountain Overlook is a signed roadside viewpoint at mile 74.4 of Skyline Drive. From 2,455 feet, it looks southeast across the Blue Ridge as the ridges descend toward Virginia’s foothills and the Piedmont. This is a brief pullout, not a hike; stop for the wide view when visibility is good. Haze can soften the far ridges and reduce the payoff.
County Line Mountain stands straight ahead, marking the boundary between Greene and Albemarle counties. Use that ridge as a landmark, then follow the folds of the Blue Ridge down toward the foothills. A broad horizontal frame gives the descending ridges room to show their layers, with County Line Mountain as an anchor.
The open vista has its own maintenance story: Greene County and Hugh and Temple Joyce funded work through the Shenandoah National Park Trust’s Adopt an Overlook program.
