Hazeltop Ridge Overlook is a roadside pullout on Skyline Drive at milepost 54.5, about 3,265 feet up. It opens onto a broad Blue Ridge view; I'd save it for a clear day, when the mountain layers are visible instead of disappearing into haze.
The overlook faces northwest to southwest. On a clear day, look past Hanse Mountain through Beldore Hollow toward Shenandoah's distant South District peaks. The rounded summit with clearings at the far left is Flattop. Let your eyes travel across the whole ridge line; that sweep is the reason to pause here.
Visitors often call out sunset, but rain and thick fog can take away the view. If the ridges are hidden, this is an easy one to leave for another overlook or another day. With clear skies, sunset gives the west-facing panorama a different light.
