Arch Rock is one of Valley of Fire’s two developed campgrounds, along Scenic Loop Road. Its tent and RV sites sit among red sandstone, making this a good pick if you want to sleep inside the park’s landscape. This is the campground, separate from the natural Arch Rock stop and from Atlatl Rock Campground.
Some sites nestle into rock pockets; others are more open, so shade and privacy vary. Check the site details before booking instead of assuming every spot is sheltered. Evenings can be quiet, and stargazing is a draw, though Las Vegas glow can brighten the horizon.
Campsites have shaded picnic tables, grills, water and restrooms; expect vault toilets. If showers or utility hookups matter, choose nearby Atlatl Rock Campground instead. This is the park’s more basic campground.
The park’s named hikes start elsewhere, so plan to drive from camp to trailheads and overlooks. Reserve through Nevada State Parks rather than relying on older first-come advice. Valley of Fire has an annual December 1–14 maintenance closure, when overnight stays are unavailable.
The orange-red formations are Jurassic-age Aztec sandstone, remnants of wind-deposited dunes roughly 150 million years old. After inland seas receded and the land rose, erosion shaped those rounded walls and boulder pockets around the campsites.
