Rainbow Vista

Overview

Rainbow Vista is the quick-hit, big-reward stop for sweeping views over bands of red, pink, orange, and yellow sandstone. A short walk from the signed parking area gets you into the color show, with sightlines stretching toward Fire Canyon.

What You'll See

• Multihued Aztec sandstone rolling into Fire Canyon’s red cliffs.
• A crest near the start with instant, wide-angle views—worth the quick, steep pop-up.
• Sandy washes and sculpted rock along the way, with an optional extension to the Fire Canyon Overlook.

Trail Feel

Expect soft sand and full sun. The main outing is short and easy-to-moderate, but the sand and heat can make it feel tougher than the mileage suggests. Wayfinding can be a little murky—keep an eye out for signs if you’re continuing to the overlook.

Wildlife

Keep an eye on warm rocks for chunky chuckwallas. Bighorn sheep sometimes drift through early or late in the day.

You’re walking Jurassic-era Aztec sandstone—ancient dunes turned to stone, then etched by wind and water into today’s rainbow palette.

Best Time to Visit

Early morning or late afternoon wins: cooler temps, softer light for photos, and a better chance at wildlife. Midday brings harsher light and hotter sand. Weekends can be busy; aim for weekdays or arrive early.

Practicalities

There’s a dedicated parking area and basic facilities at the stop. It’s also a designated wedding ceremony location. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and shoes that don’t mind sand.
