Overview

A quick leg-stretch near the Ash River Visitor Center, this short lollipop loop is more about the peaceful woods than big vistas. The “overlook” once offered a panorama, but natural succession has grown the trees tall enough to block most of the view. Come for a tranquil forest walk and a handy picnic stop, not a sweeping lookout.

What You'll See

Expect a mellow stroll through mixed forest with subtle elevation changes. It’s a place to listen to wind in the trees, spot woodland birds and small mammals, and, in season, notice wildflowers and mushrooms along the path. Pets aren’t allowed here due to wildlife concerns.

The Trail

The loop is about 0.4 miles, with a short access segment, and most people finish in 10–30 minutes. The tread can be narrow with rocks and roots, and there are short, steep ups and downs—sturdy shoes help.

Amenities

Right at the parking area you’ll find picnic tables and a grill, plus a vault toilet. There’s no water, food, or store—bring your own supplies. It’s a day-use stop and a straightforward place to pull in, stretch, and snack before moving on.

It’s typically quiet and uncrowded, even in peak months, so timing is forgiving. Summer brings mosquitoes and ticks—plan accordingly and keep your visit short if the bugs are fierce.
