Beaver Pond Overlook Trail

Beaver Pond Overlook Trail is a 0.4-mile out-and-back from the second Meadwood Road parking area, climbing through aspen and pine to a rocky outcrop above the beaver pond. The National Park Service estimates 10–30 minutes and rates it moderate. It makes a good quick stop for a forest walk with a high view over the wetland.

The approach starts on a flat, roughly four-foot-wide gravel path. Near the overlook, the climb includes stairs and sloped rock; a railing runs alongside most of it. The walk is brief, yet the upper stretch calls for steady footing. In winter, the park lists snowshoeing as the trail's seasonal use.

From the outcrop, the pond lies below and across from you, with forest and wetland around it. Binoculars help with birds or other wildlife at that distance, and sightings vary. The park's trail descriptions disagree about current beaver activity, so treat a beaver sighting as a bonus. For a photo, frame the pond with the wooded rim instead of filling the shot with trees.

Use the second parking area on Meadwood Road as you head toward Ash River Visitor Center; Kab-Ash Trail also starts here. The space nearest the Beaver Pond trailhead is reserved for visitors with disabilities, and a vault toilet is just after the trail start. No reservation or trail-specific fee is required, though a park entrance fee may apply. Pets are not allowed on Voyageurs trails.
