Trail guide
Forum Falls Trail is an out-and-back from Akamina Pass Trailhead on the Akamina Parkway to a waterfall in Akamina-Kishinena Provincial Park. The mapped route is about 5.0 km (3.1 miles) round trip; allow roughly two hours for the walk and a stop at the falls. It’s a good way to reach the waterfall without continuing to Forum Lake. The 200 m figure is the final spur from the Ranger Station, not the walk from the parking area; this full distance is measured from the mapped route because no falls-only mileage is published.
Akamina Pass Trail heads west from Cameron Lake Road and crosses the Alberta–British Columbia line. The old forestry road was built in the 1920s and runs through the Kishinena Creek country. At the Forum Lake Trail junction, turn south and take the short branch to the falls, then return the same way. The longer Forum Lake outing continues about 2 km from the Ranger Station, so its 8.8 km (5.5 mile) round-trip figure includes more than the falls. The falls route climbs to about 1,806 m, then drops slightly to the waterfall; the out-and-back adds roughly 160 m of total climbing.
Forum Falls is modest rather than a huge plunge. It’s still a satisfying stop if you like a quiet streamside waterfall. Fallen logs, water and fire-scarred tree trunks give the scene its character; include some of the creek bed in a photo to show the cascade’s scale.
The trailhead is on Cameron Lake Road, about 16 km from the Waterton park gate. Akamina-Kishinena is a wilderness park without supplies or equipment, so bring what you need and arrange transportation before you go. Dogs are allowed on leash in Waterton; keep them leashed across the boundary too. BC Parks cautions that the backcountry is a poor fit for pets because of wildlife and bears. Check access and trail conditions with both parks before setting out.
