Darby Beach is a small, exposed beach on the west coast of Wilsons Promontory, reached by a sandy track from Darby River Carpark. The easy Grade 2 walk is 1.1 km and takes about 20 minutes one way. It follows the winding Darby River toward the sea, so the approach feels like part of the visit rather than a drive up to a roadside lookout. At the end, rocky headlands frame the sand and ancient dunes rise behind it.

This is a compact coastal stop with a clear shape: open sand held between rocky headlands, dunes at its back, and Darby River running to the sea. Look for shorebirds along the beach, then take in how the headlands enclose the view. For a photo, include a rocky edge on either side of a wide shot; that gives the small strip of sand its setting. It is a good pick for a short walk and some time on the coast, especially if the approach matters as much as the destination.

Keep the water and dunes in mindThe water is the main caveat.

The water is the main caveat. Darby Beach is unpatrolled, and surf and currents can be strong, so do not treat it like a sheltered swim beach. The sand dunes are fragile and the sandstone cliffs can be unstable; stay off both and keep to the established access. Those limits shape the visit: enjoy the shoreline from the beach rather than trying to climb for a higher view.

Make the walk workStart at Darby River Carpark and allow about 20 minutes each way for the 1.

Start at Darby River Carpark and allow about 20 minutes each way for the 1.1 km track, plus your time on the sand. Toilets are at the carpark, and no water is available there. The beach is beyond the carpark, so there is no drive-up access to the sand.
