Best time to go

Best in summer when the McCarthy Road is open and town services are running (June through August is the sweet spot; early September can also work, weather permitting). Weather turns quickly—bring layers and a waterproof shell even on bluebird days.

Getting There

Park at the end of McCarthy Road, walk the footbridge, then use the local shuttle or walk toward Kennecott. From the Wagon Road, a short spur leads to open views of the glacier’s face and lake. It’s close to town, but once you leave the streets, you’re essentially in the backcountry.
