“Jordan Pond is coming up, with the rounded peaks called the Bubbles at the far end of the water. Walk down to the south shore for that classic view; you don't need to circle the lake to enjoy it.”

Little Harbor Brook Bridge is a granite-faced single arch on Acadia's wooded carriage roads, crossing a shallow, rocky brook between Jordan Pond and Brown Mountain Road. It makes a good stop if you enjoy the old bridges as much as the walks, but it is not a drive-up sight: from Jordan Pond House, the described walk is about 1.5 miles each way. The carriage roads are closed to cars and shared by walkers, cyclists and horse-drawn carriages.

A footpath passes right under the arch, so you can see the stonework and brook from below. For the defining photo, frame the bridge from this path and leave some of the rocky streambed in the foreground; it shows the arch sitting low over the brook. Spring thaw can bring temporary carriage-road closures, so check current conditions before setting out.

Completed in 1919, this was the second of 17 bridges built for Mount Desert Island's carriage-road system between 1917 and 1940. Its reinforced-concrete segmental arch is faced with roughly squared granite and was modeled on a bridge at the end of Swan Lake in Central Park. The bridge is 41 feet 6 inches long, and the arch spans 18 feet 10 inches; a 1919 date stone is set into the southwest pier.
