Skyline Arch Trail

Skyline Arch Trail is a 0.4-mile round-trip out-and-back from the scenic-road trailhead to the base of Skyline Arch. Allow 10 to 20 minutes; the NPS lists about 28 feet of elevation change. The arch spans a high sandstone wall, and the short walk takes you to the debris that changed it. If you only want a quick look, the NPS also lists a scenic view and photo spot at the trailhead.

The opening stretch climbs gently over rocky ground and steps, then levels out for the rest of the approach to the arch base. Two visitors described steeper or scramble-like footing near the arch, a useful counterpoint to the easy rating and small elevation gain. This is a rocky path, not a smooth paved approach.

A large boulder fell from Skyline Arch in 1940, roughly doubling the opening. Remnants of the fall lie near the base about 0.2 miles from the trailhead. Look for them below the arch; they make the change in the opening easier to picture than the rock silhouette alone. They also give you a distinct foreground for a photo from the base.

Begin at Skyline Arch Trailhead on Arches Scenic Drive; the park lists auto parking at the trailhead but gives no capacity or overflow details. Dogs aren't allowed on the main trail; service animals are. The specific NPS trail page says opening steps make it inaccessible to wheelchairs, while its broader mobility page lists it among routes for the park's all-terrain chair. Confirm with the park before planning around that chair. The paved path from the campground parking area to its amphitheater gives an opposite-side view; it's a separate access, not part of this walk.
