Tapestry Arch

Overview

Tucked just east of Devils Garden Campground, Tapestry Arch is a low-key gem with a distinctive look: a true arch flanked by two similar openings carved into the same sandstone fin. It reads like a woven pattern, hence the name. It sits high on the rocks of Devils Garden and is far quieter than nearby hotspots, which is exactly why many people love it.

Getting There & The Trail

Start from Devils Garden Campground—the path begins between the restrooms and campsite #39. You can reach Tapestry Arch via a short spur off the Broken Arch Loop, or include it as part of that loop. Expect mostly easy walking on sand and slickrock with cairns guiding the way; pay attention, as it’s easy to drift off the route on open rock. Near the arch, there’s a little scrambling that most adults and kids manage fine. Doing the full Broken–Sand Dune–Tapestry loop runs about 2.7–2.8 miles.

What You’ll See

The star is the multi-opening fin—often called a “triple arch” by visitors, though the openings don’t meet. Around it, you’ll find classic Devils Garden fins, desert plants, and broader views that can include the La Sal Mountains. There’s some shade near the arch, which makes it a pleasant, quiet spot to linger or picnic.

Why It’s Different

This isn’t a single grand span—it’s the pattern that makes it memorable. Because it’s lightly publicized and not front-and-center on some maps, you’ll often have it nearly to yourself even when the rest of Devils Garden is buzzing.

Wildlife

Lower foot traffic can boost your chances of casual sightings typical to this desert—lizards, birds, and small mammals are the usual cameos. Keep your distance and enjoy the quiet.

Best Time to Visit

Late afternoon into sunset flatters the sandstone and stays relatively uncrowded here. In warm months, go early or late for comfort and bring plenty of water—wind can kick up and shade is limited along the approach.

Pair It With

Combine Tapestry Arch with Broken Arch (and a detour toward Sand Dune Arch) for an easy, high-value loop from the campground.
