Tapestry Arch Trail

Tapestry Arch Trail is a 0.7-mile out-and-back from the Broken Arch Campground North Trailhead to a striking sandstone arch. Its large central opening is flanked by two shallower alcoves. Allow 30 to 60 minutes. It makes a good short stop if you’re already walking the Devils Garden area; the longer Sand Dune and Broken Arch walk can include Tapestry too.

The short approach begins by the campground restroom and campsite 39. At the sign, turn left for Tapestry; right continues toward Broken Arch and Sand Dune Arch. The trail drops gently through open sand and slickrock, and the arch comes into view shortly after the split. You climb the same stretch on the way back. The sandy tread can fade into bare rock, so watch for cairns and stay on the established path. The full 0.7 miles includes the campground approach and return; some listings round it to 0.6.

The main opening and its two shallow neighbors are what give Tapestry Arch its patterned look. It sits against one of the long sandstone fins in this part of the park. Rainwater widens parallel cracks in the rock, and those fins gradually wear into arches. From the approach, step back far enough to get all three openings in the frame.

This is easy walking, but loose sand and indistinct stretches need a little attention. Some visitors scramble over uneven rock to get closer; you can see the arch from the trail, and don’t walk or climb on it. Dogs aren’t allowed on the Broken Arch trails. The campground has restrooms and drinking water, though access for non-campers at the trail start wasn’t confirmed. No food service is described along the walk. Day-use parking at the campground start isn’t confirmed. If you need a clearly listed public starting point, the longer Sand Dune Arch approach passes through the campground and includes Tapestry Arch. Carry water and avoid the midday summer heat.
