Why hike it
Tapestry Arch is a quick, low-effort payoff: a quiet stroll to a distinctive “triple” opening carved into a sandstone wall. It’s a great add-on if you’re camped at Devils Garden or just want a mellow desert sampler without the crowds.
The route and distance
From Devils Garden Campground, the signed path to Tapestry Arch starts near the restrooms and campsite #39. It’s about 0.6 miles round-trip with minimal elevation change, mostly on sandy flats and short stretches of slickrock. The trail is marked with signs and cairns; navigation is straightforward, though you’ll want to watch for cairns on the slickrock. The final approach invites a bit of easy scrambling if you want to tuck closer beneath the arch.
Scenery and vibe
This arch’s “woven” look comes from differential weathering in Entrada Sandstone—one true opening flanked by two similar “false” arches. Along the way, expect classic Arches scenery: sagebrush, junipers, and big views across sandstone fins and towers, with the La Sal Mountains often on the horizon. It’s typically very quiet compared to nearby marquee stops.
Link it up
If you want more mileage, fold this into the Sand Dune–Broken–Tapestry loop (roughly 2.7–2.8 miles total). Starting from the Sand Dune Arch trailhead or the campground, you can see multiple arches and a variety of desert terrain with only modest effort.
Practical notes
There’s very limited shade—bring water, sun protection, and sturdy shoes for sand and slickrock. Cell service is spotty, so don’t rely on it. The spur ends close to the campground restrooms and dumpsters; not the most photogenic finale, but it’s convenient. Pets aren’t allowed on park trails. No special permit is required for the hike, though Arches may require a timed-entry reservation during its seasonal system—check current details before you go.
Best time to hike
Year-round is fine, but spring and fall offer the friendliest temperatures. In summer, go early or late for cooler air and softer light on the arch. Crowds are usually light any time of day here; that’s part of the appeal.

- Trail ends near campground dumpsters and restrooms—less scenic at the finish
- Not shown on some park maps and easy to overlook if you don’t start from the campground
Parking
Park at Devils Garden Campground and find the signed path near campsite #39 and the restrooms. If you’re linking the longer loop, you can also start from the Sand Dune Arch trailhead and take the Broken Arch route to the Tapestry spur.
Caution
Very limited shade and heat exposure; follow cairns across slickrock to avoid drifting off route; minor scrambling near the arch; limited cell service.
