National Park Information Point St. Bartholomä

Berchtesgaden National Park’s two-building information point sits on the Hirschau peninsula at Königssee. Its free exhibition and outdoor play stations make a St. Bartholomä stop more than a look at the lake, especially if you’re visiting with children.

The Jägerhaus exhibition, “Water moves mountains,” follows a drop through five themed rooms. Snow and ice lead into glaciers, karst and underground water routes, springs, the lake’s catchment, and aquatic habitats. The displays also look at how people have used and changed water here, including timber rafting, tourism, and flood protection.

The permanent exhibition uses interactive displays in German and English. The neighboring Holzstube adds a 12-minute film, “The Wonderful World of Water in the National Park,” with footage above, at, and below the water. The Jägerhaus exhibition is listed year-round; the film runs only from May through October. Two outdoor play stations link the buildings, and the exhibition is described as wheelchair-accessible.

St. Bartholomä is reached only by water; the crossing from Seelände takes about 35 minutes. Treat the information point as part of a peninsula visit and leave room for the return boat, since sunny holidays and long weekends can bring waits. The former royal hunting lodge beside the church has a separate restaurant with outdoor seating if you want a meal during the same stop.
