“Victoria Falls lookout is ahead, with a Grose Valley panorama almost as soon as you leave the car park. Stop here for the view without a long walk, but don't expect to see the waterfall from the lookout.”

Burra Korain Flat is a small tent campground at the meeting of Victoria Creek and the Grose River, deep in the Grose Valley. The 12 sites are free, unpowered and unmarked, with no booking system. You can only reach them on foot, so this is an overnight stop for a hike, not an easy place to pull into on the drive.

From the Victoria Falls Road car park, it’s 4 km one way and about two to three hours in on a steep Grade 4 track. The route passes short side paths to Silver Cascades and Victoria Falls, then zigzags down from Grose Valley lookout and follows Victoria Creek through forest. You’ll take the same track back out, so plan for the 8 km return.

Come self-sufficientThere’s a toilet, but no drinking water or food service.

There’s a toilet, but no drinking water or food service. Bring your own supplies; if you collect creek water, boil it for at least three minutes. There’s no mobile reception below Grose Valley lookout. Carry a personal locator beacon and leave trip details with someone. At dusk, listen for sulphur-crested and yellow-tailed black cockatoos; wallabies and quolls may also be about.
