Victoria Falls lookout

Victoria Falls lookout is a short viewpoint near the start of the Victoria Falls walking track in Blue Mountains National Park, close to Mount Victoria. The view opens across the wooded Grose Wilderness to a sweep of sandstone escarpment. This is a valley lookout, not a view of Victoria Falls itself. You can enjoy the panorama here without taking on the steep walk down to the waterfall.

The lookout comes almost immediately after the carpark. Beyond it, the track descends toward Victoria Falls. The full return walk is 4 km and about two to two and a half hours, rated Grade 4, with many steps and a very steep climb back out. Some bushwalking experience is recommended. If you mainly want the valley view, the lookout makes a worthwhile turn-back point.

The cliffs are largely Narrabeen Group sandstone, around 240 million years old. Sulphur-crested and yellow-tailed black cockatoos may call over the valley. For a photograph, frame the pale cliff rim above the forested slopes so the depth of the Grose Valley comes through; stay well back from the edge. Clear weather gives the panorama its best chance, while fog can obscure it.
