Gynack Mill Trail is a 1.25-mile (2 km) loop from Ardvonie Car Park in Kingussie. Allow about an hour. It links quiet roads, hazel woodland and the Gynack Burn for a short walk with a strong local-history thread. This is the marked 2 km circuit; a longer 2.3 km town-center version adds a return via Spey Street and formal gardens.

From quiet road, the trail enters hazel woodland and follows the burn past a history board, a viewing platform and traces of an old dam and mill lade. You can see a former mill on the far bank, now converted to homes. Much of the path is smooth gravel, though there are uneven sections, a bridge and a short flight of steps. Expect a few moderate slopes.

How the stream shaped KingussieThe Gynack once powered mills making flax, flour and wool.

The Gynack once powered mills making flax, flour and wool. The Fourth Duke of Gordon imagined an industrial town around the water, but that plan never came to life. The railway arrived in 1863 and helped Kingussie grow as a visitor town. Look for the stonework and channels that carried water to the mills.

Before you set offThe loop returns through Kingussie streets.

The loop returns through Kingussie streets. Ardvonie Car Park has toilets and information about local paths; a short access walk joins the mapped route. Dogs are welcome. In busy places, keep them on a short lead or close to heel, and follow seasonal signs near livestock or nesting birds. A short flight of steps at the bridge and uneven gravel sections interrupt the otherwise smooth path.
