Trail guide
West Terrace is a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) loop from Ardvonie Car Park; allow about 1½ hours. It leaves town on quiet lanes past 19th-century villas, then climbs into mixed woodland. The payoff is an opening over the Spey valley toward Creag Dhubh. It suits a short outing with some real uphill walking, rather than a summit day.
Expect long moderate slopes, a mix of tarmac and narrow earthy paths, and a few uneven sections that can be muddy after rain. The digital route relation is incomplete, so the saved line joins its mapped woodland paths to the short local streets that close the loop. Keep the route line handy where the path meets the quiet lanes.
The mixed woodland is the walk’s main setting, with the best reward when the trees open onto the Spey valley and Creag Dhubh beyond. It’s also a good choice for birdwatching; the route is short enough to take at a relaxed pace and pause when the canopy opens.
Begin at Ardvonie Car Park in Kingussie. Dogs are welcome, but keep them on a short lead or close at heel, especially around wildlife and other people. This is the West Terrace loop, not the longer Creag Bheag and Tom Baraidh circuit that continues to the higher ground.
