Kilbo Path

Kilbo Path is a 7.5 km (4.7 mile) one-way walk from the bridge by Kilbo in Glen Prosen to Glen Doll Ranger Base. It climbs onto an 850 m plateau between the glens, then descends through Corrie Kilbo and Glendoll Forest. Allow about four hours. This is a real through-walk, so arrange transport between the ends before you set out.

From the bridge, the path climbs north past Cairn Dye and along the Shank of Drumwhallo. The Glen Prosen side is quieter and gentler, but the tread becomes faint on the high ground. Near the old signpost at NO 253 737, the route turns east-northeast for about 700 m toward the plateau edge northwest of the Mayar–Driesh col. The sign has fallen and its plates are gone, so keep close track of the line; in mist it can be hard to pick out.

The descent follows the east side of the Shank of Drumfollow into Corrie Kilbo and the forest. A track crosses White Water and continues to the Ranger Base at Glen Doll. The open plateau and the descent make this a bigger hill walk than the distance suggests, even though the pass itself is not technical.

The route appears on old maps, but its original purpose is unknown. Kilbo's bothy was once a ruined deer-watcher's house and was rescued in 2013. The path may have served stalkers or drovers; that part of its history remains a guess.

The bridge at Kilbo is a long way from the nearest public road, and parking at the start has not been verified. Finish at the Glen Doll Ranger Base car park and arrange a lift or two-car shuttle. Toilets are at the Ranger Base; Clova village has the nearest places to eat. There is no food or other facility along the path.
