Veteran's Monument is a roadside memorial plaque and look-off on French Mountain along the Cabot Trail. Stop for the wide western-coast view; the plaque adds a worthwhile piece of Canadian remembrance history. It is a quick pull-off in the drive, not a separate hike. A Parks Canada pass is required for this section of the Cabot Trail.

Look over the coastThe viewpoint looks out across the Gulf of St.

The viewpoint looks out across the Gulf of St. Lawrence, with the Cabot Trail and the headlands curving through the foreground. Cap Rouge sits below; farther along the coast you can pick out Presqu'île and the Chéticamp area, with Sight Point possibly visible on a clear day. For a photo, keep the road crossing the headland in the frame so the broad water view has a foreground.

The Department of Veterans Affairs placed the plaque in 1985, during Parks Canada's centennial year, to recognize Canadians who died overseas in the World Wars. Similar plaques were installed in a national park in every province. It is a short stop, but that wider remembrance story gives the overlook a reason to linger beyond the view.
