Trail guide
The route follows the Becher’s Bay coastal terrace with broad ocean and bay views, passing the historic ranch area and connecting toward Water Canyon. The airstrip is active, so watch and listen for aircraft near the turnaround.
There is no car access to the pier; visitors arrive by boat or other authorized island transport. Day use on the Coastal Trail is currently allowed, but Santa Rosa Island is closed to overnight use through at least October 12, 2026, and Water Canyon Campground is closed during fire recovery. Check the park’s current conditions before travel.
The route is straightforward and generally flat, but shade is limited and coastal wind can be strong. Stay on marked trails and roads, follow posted fire-recovery closures, and do not enter the active-airstrip area beyond the signed route.
