Overview

Howe Meadow is the park’s big, open lawn where the community actually shows up. On event days it hums with tents, music, and local food; on quiet days it’s simply a peaceful, mown meadow with room to breathe. It’s best known as the home of the Countryside Farmers’ Market—celebrated as the first farmers’ market established in a U.S. national park—so it sits at the crossroads of park time and local life.

What You’ll See

Expect wide, grassy fields framed by woods and the agricultural corridor along Riverview Road. During events you’ll find vendor rows, pop‑up tents, and a simple outdoor stage used for concerts. Indigo Lake is just up the road, adding water views and a nice change of scene if you want to make a longer outing of it.

Parking is provided for events but can fill quickly—arrive early if the market or a concert is on. Restrooms are typically portable units during events. Shade is scarce, so sun protection (or a rain layer) pays off.

Before or after the meadow, swing by Indigo Lake for photos or an easy stroll. If you’re making a day of it, add a visit to Everett Covered Bridge nearby for a classic valley scene.
