Cape Trib Farm is a working tropical-fruit orchard and guided tasting attraction near Cape Tribulation. The visit pairs samples from a changing harvest with a walk among the trees, making this a rewarding booked stop if you enjoy food and want to see what grows in the Daintree. It is not a casual roadside snack stop: tours require advance booking and run seasonally.

Try fruit you may not knowThe tasting menu changes with the harvest.

The tasting menu changes with the harvest. The farm names chocolate pudding fruit, mamey sapote, carambola, breadfruit and durian among the possibilities, but none is guaranteed on a particular day. The guide talks about the fruits’ origins and uses before taking visitors through the orchard, where you can see the trees that produced the tasting. Allow about an hour and a half for the experience.

Colin and Dawn Gray began collecting and propagating little-known tropical fruits in the 1970s. They started with cleared former cattle land alongside rainforest at Cape Tribulation, and the family’s first tastings began in the early 1980s. The farm is built around the idea that unusual fruit is more interesting when you can connect the flavor to the tree and its growing conditions.

Cyclone Rona struck in February 1999 and destroyed 90 percent of a 500-tree durian paddock, along with damaging other fruit trees. The farm rebuilt and expanded its orchard; tastings resumed in 2015, and the current owners bought the property in 2016. That recovery is part of the story behind a working farm that has kept its rare-fruit focus for decades.

The tour generally runs from Easter through October, and bookings are essential. Visitor parking is provided for booked guests. Cape Trib Farm is reached along Cape Tribulation Road after the Daintree River ferry crossing; allow extra time for ferry queues during school holidays. Five self-catering orchard cottages are also on the property, but the farm breakfasts are for overnight guests rather than a public café.
