Guide
The Bat House is a small rainforest interpretation centre at the entrance to a tropical research station on Cape Tribulation Road. Its visitor information and exhibits focus on bats and the surrounding rainforest, so it suits a short, conservation-minded stop. Current walk-in access and hours are unconfirmed; check before making it a dedicated detour.
The centre is named for a flying fox cared for there, and its historical visitor draw included learning about rescued bats that could not be returned to the wild. A resident animal or close encounter is not guaranteed today, and current viewing arrangements are unclear.
Built in 1991 on land previously cleared for grazing and orchards, the centre stands on a block volunteers replanted and restored. It is set opposite PK's backpackers, at the front of the station rather than deep on a trail.
