Cape Tribulation Beach and Kulki“You're coming up on Cape Tribulation Beach and the Kulki day-use area. I'd stop for the short boardwalk, where you get a view of rainforest-covered slopes running down to the beach and rocky headlands.”

Trail guide
Cape Tribulation to Emmagen Creek is a 10 km (6.2 mile) out-and-back along the coast, from the Kulki access at the south end of Cape Tribulation Beach to Emmagen Creek and back. Allow about five hours. The often-quoted 5 km and 2.5 hours are one way. This is a good choice if a long beach walk is the point; it’s a poor fit if you need a marked trail or a quick stroll.
Take the Kulki walk down to the beach, then follow the shore north. There’s no formed trail to follow: you’re walking on sand and rocky shoreline, with forested headlands and coves between the wider beach sections. Your line and pace depend on the tide, so this isn’t a route to improvise once the water is rising.
At Emmagen you reach a rocky shore at the creek mouth, with mangroves and a view back toward Cape Tribulation. Turn around there and retrace the coast. The road return is a separate option and is not part of the mapped route.
Plan the whole return around low tide. High water affects the lower shore, and a five-hour round trip needs a generous tide window. Check local tide times before setting out and don’t start if you can’t complete the return safely. At Emmagen Creek, stay out of the water: crocodiles may use the creek, and the park advises against swimming anywhere crocodiles may live, even where there’s no warning sign.
Park at the Kulki car park off Cape Tribulation Road, then take the Kulki walk or boardwalk to the southern end of Cape Tribulation Beach. That beach access is the start of the route; the short roadside Emmagen Creek Walk and its upstream footpad are different walks. Dogs aren’t permitted in Daintree National Park.
