Grebe Valley Track

This remote Fiordland point-to-point route links Borland Road near Borland Bivouac with the Lake Monowai car park via Green Lake and Green Lake Hut. The full through-route is about 18 km (11.2 miles) one way and usually takes around 9 hours; it is not a loop, and the stored line follows the physical corridor once rather than duplicating a return.\n\nExpect a demanding backcountry outing through beech forest, open tussock, boggy lowlands, and the steep forested climb near Green Lake. Green Lake Hut is the main overnight objective and the route continues from the lake toward the Monowai end through remote, rugged country. This is for experienced trampers who can manage mud, windfall, wet-foot crossings, route-finding, and rapidly changing Fiordland weather.\n\nThe Borland end is reached along the unsealed Borland Road near Borland Bivouac; the opposite end is the Lake Monowai car park by Monowai Campsite. Arrange a shuttle or other transport for this point-to-point route. Carry a map or GPS, emergency communication, warm layers, food, and water; hut water is untreated and should be treated or boiled.
