Belton Chalet and Historic Depot“You're nearing Belton Chalet in West Glacier, a good choice for a sit-down dinner in a railway-era building. Great Northern opened it in nineteen ten for visitors arriving by train at the depot across Highway Two.”

Guide
Belton Depot is a historic wood-frame railroad station in West Glacier, just outside the park’s west entrance, now home to the Glacier National Park Conservancy bookstore and gift shop. The visit centers on the shop and the building’s railroad character, so plan a short stop if you enjoy historic stations or want Glacier books and gifts; it is a smaller side trip than the park’s major natural sights.
Rough-hewn siding and a clipped cross-gable give the building its rustic profile. The depot stands beside Amtrak’s West Glacier platform, so the railway setting is still part of the place rather than just its backstory.
Great Northern opened the present wood-frame depot in 1910 to welcome visitors to Glacier’s west side. It was enlarged in 1935, and the older section became baggage and express space. A trellised path once linked the station to Belton Chalet, one of Great Northern’s resort hotels around the park.
The Conservancy bookstore and gift shop carries books, clothing, souvenirs, and park-themed gifts. Visitors often praise the helpful staff and historic atmosphere; several have also found National Park passport cancellation stamps here. If you collect them, ask what stamps are available during your visit.
