Apgar Visitor Center

Apgar Visitor Center is Glacier's west-side information hub, a low timber building at the junction of Camas Road and Going-to-the-Sun Road, about two miles north of the West Entrance. It's a useful first stop for route questions, park information and the shuttle. Think practical orientation with exhibits, not a big museum.

Rangers and volunteers help with trip planning, maps and park updates, and the Glacier National Park Conservancy bookstore sells park publications and gifts. This is the main west-side boarding point for the free park shuttle. Red Bus Tours and Sun Tours also pick up here if you've booked ahead.

The parking area serves shuttle passengers. The park describes it as ample, but visitors have also reported full spaces during busy periods, so leave a little buffer on a peak shuttle morning. The staffed desk and shop are seasonal, and their hours change; check the current park schedule before relying on them. Public restrooms stay open year-round, including when the center is closed. The park also lists accessible and family restrooms, water-bottle filling, Wi-Fi and a phone-charging outlet.

A quarter-mile paved walking and biking path leads toward Apgar Village, Apgar Campground and Lake McDonald. It's an easy way to stretch your legs or continue toward the lakeshore after sorting out the day's logistics.

The building opened in 2007 as the Apgar Transit Center, a staging and orientation point for access along Going-to-the-Sun Road during road rehabilitation. In 2014, the park moved its visitor-center operation here from Apgar Village. The existing facility was repurposed rather than replaced, and the park described it as LEED Gold certified.
