Guide
Lehman Caves Visitor Center is the staffed park facility at the end of the main entrance road, about 5.5 miles from Baker. Cave tours check in and leave from here; the building also has an information desk, exhibit hall, park film, store and the Great Basin Cafe. If the cave is your main reason for stopping, reserve ahead: tours are limited to 20 people and often sell out, especially on summer weekends. Arrive about 15 minutes early and check in at least 5 minutes before departure; a late check-in can cost you your ticket.
The exhibits make this more than a ticket desk. Spend a little time here before heading underground or while you wait for a tour, especially if you want a first look at the cave's formations and the park's dark sky. The center is also the practical stop for park information and cave-tour planning.
The cave display shows more than the familiar stalactites and stalagmites. Look for shields and formations nicknamed turnips, along with details tucked into the model. The hall gives you a way to recognize some of the shapes before you see them in the real cave.
A curved ceiling turns the dark-sky exhibit into a view of the stars over the Great Basin. Its timeline links astronomy with history, and the displays invite you to notice which stars are visible in the park's unusually dark night sky.
The Great Basin Cafe is attached, with coffee, ice cream, snacks and a grill or table-service option listed among its offerings; check what's being served if you're counting on a full meal. There is also a park store, parking and accessible restrooms. The center itself is listed as wheelchair accessible.
