Lower Lehman Creek Campground

Lower Lehman Creek is a 20-site campground on Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive, 2.5 miles from the Lehman Caves Visitor Center. It is a practical base for the caves and the higher drive, and the only campground in the park open year-round. The winter vehicle closure is farther up the road at Upper Lehman, so Lower remains accessible for winter camping.

Every site requires a reservation. Six are pull-through, with a listed RV and trailer limit of 40 feet. Vehicles longer than 24 feet cannot continue beyond Upper Lehman on Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive because of sharp curves and steep grades. There are no electric hookups, potable water, showers, or dump station, so bring drinking water. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and year-round vault toilets serve the campground. One accessible site and an accessible restroom are listed.

Site surfaces are gravel or dirt, and some are steep or uneven. Shade and creek access vary by site, so check the individual site details before booking if level tent space matters to you.

Lehman Creek comes down from lakes and snowfields high in the Snake Range, dropping about 3,000 vertical feet before it reaches the campground. Water birch, aspen, and white fir grow along the stream. A stroll among the trees or time by the water is the main payoff, and the park points campers toward bird-watching here.
