Overview

Tucked between Lorne and Wye River, Jamieson Creek Campground is a simple, coastal bush camp where you fall asleep to surf and wake to blue-water views. It sits just above the Great Ocean Road in Great Otway National Park, surrounded by coastal woodland and tall eucalypts.

Campsites & Facilities

24 unpowered sites; each allows up to six people.
Two zones: drive-in vehicle sites and a walk‑in tent area (sites 10–19) reached from a central carpark.
Sites 4 and 7 suit caravans; others cater to tents, camper trailers and campervans.
Facilities are basic: non‑flush toilets, shared fireplaces (bring your own firewood), gas BBQs and picnic tables/shelter with sea views. Non‑drinkable water is available from taps—bring all your drinking water.
Expect spotty mobile reception.

Getting There & Access

It’s about a 2.5‑hour drive from Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road, then up Jamieson Track. The access road is a narrow, steep gravel climb—fine for most 2WDs if you take it slow; towing heavier caravans is easier with a 4WD and in dry conditions. Advanced bookings and payment are required year‑round.

Things To Do Nearby

Step straight onto the Jamieson Creek Walking Track (5.5 km one way) to Wye River—an undulating route with staircases, creek crossings and Southern Ocean views.
Chase waterfalls at Erskine, Sheoak and Cumberland Falls, all an easy drive away.
Explore local 4WD forest tracks, or head down to the nearby unpatrolled beach for a stroll.

Wildlife

You’re in classic Otways habitat. Around here, short‑beaked echidnas and long‑nosed bandicoots are protected—give them space and watch your footing where they’ve been digging, especially at dawn and dusk. Campers also report regular wallaby visits and colorful lorikeets.

Rules & Safety

No dogs. Fires are banned on Total Fire Ban days; use gas cookers then. The local beach is unpatrolled and prone to strong currents and rough surf—treat it with caution. Check park alerts before you go, as conditions and nearby track statuses can change.

Best Time To Visit

Weekdays outside the peak summer period are the quietest. Weekends and school‑holiday periods book out fast. In warmer months, flies/midges can bite—pack repellent and plan for dusk comfort.
