Trail guide
This easy 1.9 km circuit leaves Moggs Creek Picnic Ground, drops into a fern-lined creek gully, then loops back to the same car park. Allow about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace. The mapped distance includes the short picnic-ground link between the west end of the car park and the named circuit. This is the short creek walk, separate from the longer Ocean View Circuit that climbs toward a coastal lookout.
A narrow, well-graded path follows the creek and crosses four small timber bridges. The best look into the gully opens from higher ground between bridges two and three. After the creekside stretch, the track rises briefly to this vantage before returning toward the picnic ground.
Ferns, mosses, fungi and lichens fill the understorey beneath ironbark and eucalypts. Some blackened ironbark trunks recall the 1983 bushfires and later fuel-reduction burns. Flowers are most rewarding in late spring and early summer; Nodding Greenhood orchids can appear near the return. Listen for honeyeaters, Red Wattlebirds and Pied Currawongs, and keep a quiet eye out for shy Swamp Wallabies.
Start at the circuit sign at the western end of the car park. Toilets, picnic tables and wood-fired barbecues are at the picnic ground; bring your own firewood and drinking water. Dogs are not permitted on this route.
