Cinema Point is a small roadside lookout on the Great Ocean Road, known for an east-facing coastal view and a plaque about the road’s builders. The signed turnoff is about 8 km west of Aireys Inlet. The layby is tiny, with room for only a couple of cars, and the road here is winding and hilly, so take care turning in and out.

Tree growth may screen much of the panorama now. I’d treat this as an optional pause while you’re already on the drive, rather than make a detour expecting an open view.

A bronze plaque at the pull-in commemorates the World War I servicemen who built the Great Ocean Road in memory of fellow soldiers killed in action. The origin of “Cinema Point” has two accounts: one links it to panoramic publicity pictures used to win support for the road; another ties it to a 1919 Pathé Frères silent film showing early road work. The name’s exact origin remains unclear.

The view eastThe intended view runs east toward Eastern View, Fairhaven and Aireys Inlet.

The intended view runs east toward Eastern View, Fairhaven and Aireys Inlet. If the trees leave a gap, a wide horizontal photo can hold the layered headlands and open water together, showing the coast’s curve. The lookout is right by the road, so it’s a short look and plaque stop rather than a walk to a separate viewpoint.
