Guide
Moggs Creek Picnic Area is a forest clearing in Great Otway National Park, inland from the Great Ocean Road. It’s a good place to make lunch a proper stop rather than a quick roadside break: picnic tables and public toilets are here, along with wood-fired barbecues. Bring your own food and firewood.
The Ocean View circuit starts here and takes about 5 km and two hours. It climbs through eucalypt forest before a short heathland spur reaches the lookout, with broad views toward Aireys Inlet and Lorne. The uphill sections make this a real walk, but the coastal view gives the stop more to do than eat and turn around.
The route passes a notable stand of Austral Grass-trees, and small ground orchids may flower in winter and spring. Blackened ironbark trunks recall the 1983 bushfires and later fuel-reduction burns, so there’s a bit of local history in the forest as well as at the lookout.
