Trail guide
Aireys Eastern View Circuit is a long loop from Memorial Arch through forest tracks toward Moggs Creek, then back to the Great Ocean Road coast by Ocean View. The complete mapped line is about 9.2 miles (14.7 km); allow four to five hours for roughly 1,600 feet (490 m) of climbing. Published route lengths differ: one description gives 13.1 km and a full-loop map says 15 km. This saved line follows that full map and measures 14.7 km. It’s a half-day hike, not the separate 4.5–5 km Moggs Creek Ocean View walk from the picnic ground.
From the Arch, the route follows Golf Links Road and rough forest connectors around Coalmine Creek, climbs over a ridge, then drops toward Moggs Creek. Expect unsealed, uneven tracks and repeated ups and downs rather than a smooth, consistently signed walking path. The high point is near 300 m (980 ft). Carry enough water for several hours and keep an offline route handy at the forest junctions.
The circuit reaches the Moggs Creek area, then links back toward the Ocean View forest track. Austral grass-trees add a distinctive stretch before the route opens to a coastal lookout, with views toward Aireys Inlet, Split Point Lighthouse and the Great Ocean Road shoreline. The return uses a beach-side connection. Its exact walking line and current access are not confirmed by a land manager, so follow local signs and don’t force a closed or unclear way through.
The Arch commemorates the returned service people who built the Great Ocean Road; the nearby sculptural group shows workers building it. The route directions start at the ocean-side parking area beside the road. Moggs Creek Picnic Ground is a separate stop along the loop, with toilets and picnic facilities; food and drinking water on the route were not confirmed. Dogs aren’t allowed on the Great Otway National Park sections.
