Overview
Moggs Creek Circuit Walk is an easy, roughly 1.9 km loop from Moggs Creek Picnic Ground. It follows the creek through a ferny valley, crosses four small wooden bridges, then climbs to a view over the gully before returning to the car park. Allow about 30–60 minutes; 45 minutes gives you time to look around without rushing. This is a compact nature walk, not a long bush hike.

Trail guide
The creek is the thread of the walk. After descending from the picnic area, the track crosses four small timber bridges through moist, ferny vegetation. The higher vantage point opens up the creek and gully, with the best described views between bridges two and three. It’s a good short option when you want a bit of bush without giving up half a day.
Look for rough, dark ironbark trunks among the Southern Blue-gums, messmates and Manna Gums. The blackened ironbarks are reminders of the 1983 bushfires and later fuel-reduction burns. Maidenhair and Rasp Ferns grow through the gully, with Common Ground-fern behind them.
Spring and summer bring the Victorian Christmas Bush’s white flower clusters. Cut-leaf Daisy, Blue-Bottle-daisy and Pale Vanilla-lily are noted along the track in late spring and early summer. Large colonies of Nodding Greenhoods grow near the return to the picnic ground; Tall Greenhoods and Mantis Orchids are occasional.
The moist gully supports varied birdlife. Walk quietly and watch the vegetation for a Swamp Wallaby; New Holland Honeyeaters, Red Wattlebirds and Pied Currawongs are among the birds recorded in the walk notes.
Start at the signed circuit entrance at the west end of the car park. The trail is described as well graded, though the first section narrows and winds down into the gully. Dogs aren’t permitted on this Great Otway National Park trail; assistance dogs must follow applicable entry requirements.
The picnic ground has toilets, picnic tables and wood-fired barbecues. Bring your own firewood if you plan to use one.
