Overview

A compact coastal‑forest stroll to a big view. The shortest, most popular version is a 0.75‑mile total out‑and‑back from the end of Robyn Road to the signed Ocean View Lookout. If you want a little more, there’s a longer loop starting at Moggs Creek Picnic Ground that typically takes 60–90 minutes (distance not posted).

Route Options

From Robyn Road: Climb a steady, sometimes slick slope to the Ocean View Lookout, then return the same way.
From Moggs Creek Picnic Ground (western end, signed “Ocean View Track”): Follow the main track uphill through ironbark and wattles. About 20 minutes in, cross a management track; continue to Moggs Creek Track. Turn left (downhill) to the short heathland spur for the Ocean View Lookout. After the views, return to Moggs Creek Track, cross it, and follow the signed walking track through forest back to the picnic ground.

What You’ll See

Blackened ironbark trunks tell a fire story, while Prickly Moses, Varnish Wattle, Large‑leaf Bush‑pea (spring blooms), and a standout patch of Austral grass‑trees line the way. Expect sweeping coastal vistas toward Aireys Inlet and Lorne and along the Great Ocean Road. Eastern Grey Kangaroos are often seen near the tracks.

Best Time to Hike

Spring brings wildflowers and bush‑pea blooms. For photography, aim for early or late light when the coastline pops; bring a layer for wind at the lookout. After rain, the steeper bits can be slippery—good tread helps.

Know Before You Go

Dogs are allowed on‑lead. No bikes or horses on the walking track. Watch your footing—echidna and long‑nosed bandicoot diggings can create ankle‑twisting hollows, especially near dawn/dusk. Carry a torch if you’re starting late. Always check Parks Victoria’s change‑of‑conditions before you go; some nearby sites and campgrounds in Great Otway National Park have rolling closures or works around late November–December 2025.
