Caribou Island Campground

Caribou Island Campground is a small, low-service campground on the western tip of West Caribou Island, on Rock Harbor Channel at Isle Royale's northeast end. It is an overnight stop for paddlers and private boaters, with two shelters and an overnight dock. Arrive by canoe, kayak or private boat; there is no road access.

Water is available but not potable, and there is a toilet. There is no store or trash collection, so bring drinking water or a way to treat it and pack out rubbish. Small-party campsites and dock space are first-come, first-served, and an overnight permit is required. Parties of six or fewer do not pay a camping fee, though the park entrance fee still applies. The stay limit is three nights from June 1 through Labor Day. Fires are allowed only in the provided community fire ring, and pets are not allowed in the park. The usual camping season runs from April 16 through October 31.

The shelters sit among trees beside Rock Harbor Channel, with water visible through the shoreline. Visitors consistently praise the scenery; one has spotted Ranger III entering Middle Islands Passage from the south shore on ferry arrival days. Treat that as a chance sighting rather than a scheduled attraction. This is an overnight stop, not a place to resupply.
