Daisy Farm Campground

Daisy Farm is Isle Royale’s largest campground, set beside Lake Superior where the Rock Harbor, Daisy Farm and Mount Ojibway trails meet. Its 25 sites include 16 shelters among the trees. It’s a useful overnight pause for hikers crossing the island, and private boaters can stay at the dock. Get here by foot, canoe, kayak or boat.

Overnight stays require a permit. Small-party sites and shelters are first come, first served; group sites need advance reservations. From June 1 through Labor Day, the stay limit is three nights. There’s no store or trash collection, and the water is non-potable, so treat it before drinking. Food lockers are available year-round; vault toilets are seasonal. The ground is rough and uneven, and the facilities aren’t wheelchair accessible.

Daisy Farm Trail climbs about 1.7 miles from camp to Greenstone Ridge, with views over eastern Isle Royale. For a longer day, the Daisy Farm Triangle makes a roughly 5.1-mile loop using Daisy Farm, Mount Ojibway and part of Greenstone Ridge trails. The long boardwalk bridges can be slippery when wet, and beaver activity can flood sections of trail.

The dock and harbor views are part of the draw; visitors often use the waterfront to cool off after a hike. Daisy Farm is a busy trail hub, so it can feel less secluded than a smaller camp, and trails pass close to some shelters. The vault toilets are basic, and their upkeep has been a recurring complaint.
