Why go

If you want maximum Jasper scenery for minimum effort, this loop delivers. The path hugs Lac Beauvert’s emerald shoreline with constant water-and-mountain views and a front‑row look at the historic lodge. Expect flat, well‑maintained tread and a mellow vibe that suits kids, casual walkers, and anyone looking to decompress.

The walk

It’s a true loop around Lac Beauvert, totaling about 2.4–2.5 miles (4 km) with negligible elevation gain. Wayfinding is easy—follow the lakeshore and the signed route (#4a). You’ll pass the boathouse, sections beside the golf course, and tranquil lodgepole pine stands. Most people stroll it in about an hour; there’s a longer variant around 3.3 miles if you want extra steps.

What you’ll see

On clear days the glacier‑fed water is shockingly blue‑green, with big-mountain backdrops and mirrorlike reflections in calm morning light. Elk are commonly spotted near the golf course; bears have been seen in spring, so keep your distance. Summer brings paddling from the boathouse (canoes and pedal boats), and some folks even brave a quick dip when it’s warm.

Best time to hike

Early morning is the sweet spot: glassy reflections, cooler temps, and fewer people. Summer is prime for color and water activities. Spring and fall mean lighter crowds and good wildlife chances (give elk and bears plenty of room). In winter, the loop is typically walkable and can see snowshoe or ski traffic when conditions allow—peaceful, but dress for cold and traction.

Good to know

  • Start from the public south parking off Old Fort Point Road (Lot 17 area). Don’t confuse it with hotel guest parking.
  • The path can get wet or muddy after rain. Waterproof shoes help.
  • Near the golf course, stay on the marked trail and watch for golfers and stray balls.
  • It’s popular—go early or late for quieter moments and better photos.
  • Carry bear spray; elk can be aggressive during the rut.

Pros

  • Boathouse rentals steps from the loop for an easy hike‑and‑paddle combo
  • Year‑round option that’s pleasant even as a winter walk

Cons

  • Sections hug the golf course—expect golfers and occasional stray balls
  • Can be muddy after rain and busy near the lodge in peak season

Parking

Use the public south parking near Old Fort Point Road (Lot 17 area). From there, walk to the lakeshore and follow the signed #4a loop. Avoid hotel guest parking.

Caution

Carry bear spray and give wildlife space; elk can be aggressive in rut. Stay on trail near the golf course and watch for stray balls. Expect wet/muddy sections after rain.
