A quick hit of views for minimal time, Redstreak Loop is a short, total 1.1‑mile loop rising through open forest and rocky bluffs to clear sightlines across the Columbia Valley. Expect an easy outing overall with a noticeable grunt in the first half, then a mellow return. Typical hiking time is about 45 minutes, but plan up to an hour if you linger at viewpoints.

Route and navigation

The loop begins near the E Loop at the east end of Redstreak Campground. Signage exists, but reports note occasional inconsistencies around the signed lookout, so keep your eyes on junction posts. To soften the steepest grade, hike the loop clockwise. The path is mostly packed dirt with rocky sections; sturdy footwear makes it more pleasant.

What you’ll see

This is mostly a forested walk with sunny exposure and periodic “windows” out over Radium and the broader Columbia Valley. Birdlife is a perk here—hawks and nuthatches are commonly mentioned along the route. It’s a handy stretch-your-legs option right from camp and pairs well with a soak at nearby Radium Hot Springs afterward.

Best time to hike

Spring through fall is ideal for warm, dry tread and crisp valley views. Because the route is exposed in places, mid‑day can feel hot in summer; go early or late for softer light and cooler temps. In late fall and winter, expect icy patches—traction helps.

Nearby alternatives

If you want something even shorter and more interpretive, the nearby restoration loop in the Redstreak area offers educational signage and a good chance of seeing bighorn sheep. There’s also a signed connector between the campground and Radium Hot Springs for an easy add‑on.

Practical notes

A Parks Canada pass is required to use the campground area. This is grizzly country—travel in a small group, make noise, and carry bear spray. Keep dogs close and under control around wildlife.
