Before you go

Parking

Use the Wasdale Head village green and car park beside the Wasdale Head Inn. Valley parking is very limited; National Trust car parks do not allow overnight parking.

Best time to go

Choose a clear, settled day and allow enough daylight for a long ascent and descent. Low angled light in the early morning or late in the day separates the ridgelines and keeps shadow in the valley, while midday light tends to flatten the crags.

Safety

Gatherstone Beck can be hazardous when water levels are high. The upper route is steep, rocky and bouldery, and poor visibility makes navigation harder. Dogs are not suitable on this route. No overnight parking in National Trust car parks.
