Trail guide
Tighanes Burn Trail is a 1¾-mile loop from Strathyre village car park. It climbs beside the burn through Scots pine, passes waterfalls, then opens to views of Ben Vane and the Braes of Balquhidder. Allow about 1½ hours. This is a short outing with a real uphill effort: one steep slope lasts about 400 m.
Narrow earth-and-grass paths can be muddy; the loop also has a bridge, a road crossing and some wider tracks. A descent diversion onto Coille MacCaskill Path makes a longer option through native pinewood dedicated to local forester and naturalist Don MacCaskill. Early morning gives you the best chance to spot red squirrels or deer and hear jays and buzzards.
Start at Strathyre village car park, at the village’s south end west of the A84. Dogs are allowed if kept under control or on a lead. The village has a café, shop and hotel, separate from the route. The nearest public toilets are in Callander. The steep slope and muddy patches are the main reasons to skip it if you want a gentle stroll.
