Plan your hike

Before you go

Parking

Point-to-point stage. Arrange a drop-off at Ingleby Cross; the finish is at Clay Bank Top by the B1257, with the Clay Bank car park and picnic area about 2.4 miles (4 km) south of Great Broughton.

Best time to go

Long summer days suit the full stage best, since the distance and climbing take time. Expect stronger wind and faster moving cloud on the tops in the cooler months, and be ready for wet, boggy ground and low cloud at any time of year. Carry layers, water and food, as the route spends long stretches on open moor.

Safety

Steep, exposed climbs and rough moorland paths. Keep dogs on a short lead or under close control around livestock and nesting birds, and arrange transport from the finish before setting out.
