Plan your stop

Before you go

Best time to go

Aim for a clear, dry day and make an early start for the bigger walks and for the best light on the surrounding hills. Midweek or outside the busiest holiday periods is likely to feel quieter. Wet weather can make the ground difficult, so boots are sensible and a groundsheet plus decent pegs help. Arrive stocked up on food and supplies, since the on-site shop covers basics only and the nearest village facilities are a walk away, and be ready to carry your kit from the car park to your pitch.

Walking access

Routes range from gentle valley-bottom walks to more demanding climbs onto the Kinder plateau via Crowden Clough or Jacob's Ladder, with Grindslow Knoll and Kinder Scout within reach on foot. There are waterfalls nearby. Edale is about two miles away through fields, where you will find a shop, cafes and pubs; these are village facilities, not campsite ones.

A traditional, family-friendly National Trust campsite set on a working farm in the Upper Booth valley, directly below the heather-clad Kinder plateau. The Pennine Way passes through the farm, so it works well as a walking base or a peaceful overnight stop, with broad hill views from the fields and around 40 pitches for tents and campervans.

Quiet and fairly isolated, with open views up the valley and informal pitching across an upper and a lower field. Pitches are not marked out, and some ground slopes, so it is worth walking the field and picking your spot before unloading. Facilities are clean and modern in feel, and the setting stays peaceful, though bank holiday periods can be busier.

The approach is a narrow restricted road with limited passing places, unsuitable for large vehicles, then under a railway bridge and through Upper Booth farm; the campsite is just past the red phone box. Motorhomes are not allowed. By train, Edale Station on the Hope Valley line is a couple of miles away on foot, and there is no regular bus route in Edale. The camping fields are car-free: the lower field sits roughly 120 m from the car park and wheelbarrows are available for carrying gear.
